Sheet Metal Fabrication

Our sheet metal welding processing services allow you to see sample parts in a matter of days. We provide 3D design visualization to help you manage project costs and gain actionable design insights. With a wide range of machining and finishing capabilities, our powerful technology combined with skilled operators can produce accurate and high-quality sheet metal parts, whether your project consists of single or multiple components.

The main stages of metal fabrication include

Design: Metal fabricators develop plans that meet specifications, perform 3D testing, and plan processes and procedures.

Fabrication: Fabricators take raw materials or sheet metal and shape them to turn concepts into reality. This stage may include multiple manufacturing, machining, and joining operations.

Part finishing: Metal parts may be surface treated, heat treated, painted, treated, or assembled, packaged, or shipped.

Welding is used in nearly all industries to manufacture parts, structural components, and equipment. The construction, automotive, and aerospace industries often hire welding professionals to manufacture a variety of products, from large components to complex assemblies. Welding is even becoming a popular technique for making artwork.

Types of Welding and Fabrication Services

Welding

The welding process joins two separate pieces of metal together to form a single unit. There are many types of welding and fabrication services, each suitable for different materials or different situations. Welding is a permanent fastening process that combines heat and pressure with consumable materials (or fillers) to join two pieces of metal together.

Common consumable materials include filler wire, consumable electrodes, and materials similar to the parent metal. Some welding methods use a filler wire to join two parent materials, while others use electrodes and gas to generate heat. Welding is usually performed at high temperatures, and the type of weld selected depends on the metals used.

MIG welding

MIG welding, also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or MAG (metal active gas), is a versatile welding process with two main types. One type uses a bare wire as a filler, which is effective for joining thin metal parts. The second type uses a flux core and is designed for thicker materials and outdoor conditions, ensuring strong, durable welds in a variety of environments. This versatility makes MIG welding suitable for a wide range of applications.

TIG welding

TIG welding, also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), uses a wire feeder and welding gun to generate heat and an arc to join parts. This extremely versatile welding method is suitable for metal materials such as aluminum, cobalt, and copper.

Orbital Welding

Orbital welding technology uses a rotating arc around a set of stationary workpieces. This method creates more consistent welds in a variety of situations, such as around stationary pipes. It is also widely regarded for its ability to provide reliable, repeatable results. Customers also enjoy the advantage of working with certified welding inspectors.

Pentek also has related manufacturing capabilities:

Fabrication is a broad category that covers different processes and production stages. Fabrication services begin with material selection and part manufacturing. Some subcategories of fabrication include:

Casting

Casting is the process of melting metal into a liquid state and pouring it into a mold. As the metal cools, it hardens into a predetermined shape. With permanent mold castings, manufacturers can repeatedly produce the same metal part.

Cutting

Cutting cuts metal workpieces into smaller pieces. It involves technologies such as plasma cutting, water jet cutting, laser cutting, and machine tool cutting. Metal fabricators can cut metal sheets or bars. They choose the appropriate cutting method based on the material’s resistance to mechanical damage, water and heat, and the complexity of the design.

Machining

Similar to cutting, machining is the cutting of metal into pieces. Machining, however, is the process of finishing a workpiece by removing excess material, which is then discarded or reused. Common machining processes include drilling, turning to create smooth shapes, and milling to cut away excess material at multiple points.

Bending & Forming

Bending & Forming – The Bending & Forming technology area covers a wide range of machines and processes used to fabricate sheet metal, plates and tubes. To achieve the desired shape, some of the most commonly used equipment include bending machines, folding machines, sheet bending machines and punching machines, which plastically deform these materials. Other technologies covered in this area include angle formers, ironworkers, slotters, rail formers and sheet rolling machines.
